How to get more New Patients
I have been consulting in dental offices for a few years now. I am constantly amazed at the impact a few key changes can make in the success of a dental office. For example in a recent interview with the receptionist in an office I am consulting in, I asked how often patients asked about their financial policy. She said most did. I also asked how their financial policy was received by their new patients. She casually said, “Oh about half of them don’t like it.” When I asked if any of those that don’t like it book anyway she said that they did not. So right away he is losing half of his potential new patients. And it never occurred to her that this might be a problem or that she should tell the doctor. When I listened to her answer the phone, I realized that she did a good job of answering all the questions people asked, and was very friendly and polite. But she never once encouraged the caller to make an appointment. The only ones that got an appointment were the ones who already had that in mind when they phoned. So she easily lost another half of the remaining potential new patients. Needless to say with some minor adjustments, the new patient flow took off in this office. They simply stopped wasting what they already had calling in. This is one small example of how a new set of eyes or ideas can create massive improvements almost over-night. It is amazing how many things we overlook in our day to day routine just because we are used to it being that way. Yet many times there are glaring issues that can easily be corrected. There are other critical things to say and also not say in these initial calls and the difference in your results can be extreme.
